Inspired by particle physics, this painting envisions the dissolution of matter into pure light and energy. It invites you to experience this transformation as a metaphor for unseen forces — both physical and emotional — that shape the world around us.

The work is an homage to light itself: the light created by electrons racing through particle accelerators, the light emitted by distant stars, and the light generated by the nerve cells in our bodies as they communicate with one another.

It’s inspired by the cross-section diagram of the BESSY II particle accelerator in Berlin where I had a residency. It’s such a dynamic shape, like a spinning pulsar, or a spiral galaxy like our Milky Way.

Acrylic and oil on canvas
100 cm x 100 cm / 39" x 39"

My residency at BESSY II opened up the world of particle and astrophysics to me. Electrons race at near light-speed, generating an intense radiation known as synchrotron light. Scientists use this light to observe how materials behave under changing conditions — effectively allowing them to see deep into the interior of solid matter.

Signed and titled on the back.

The edges are painted in matching colours so that you don't need to frame the artwork. It comes ready to hang as is.
